One Day Maewang Elephant Conservation

Duration: 08.00 am – 17.00 pm

Today you will meet the guide and driver at the hotel lobby for departure from Chiang Mai by a local truck around 09.30am. On the way from Chiang Mai to the camp, you can enjoy the view of local villages, temples and the beautiful scenic countryside of Lanna.

The drive will take around 45 minutes and there is a stop at Mae Wang local market. Here you can get some vegetables, bananas, sticky rice and herbs for the elephants later. Before stopping to pick up your picnic lunch box from the villagers at the local market, you can walk around the market for a few minutes and continue to go to the camp on the Mae Wang mountain.

Pay a visit to the beautiful waterfall before you take a short walk into the forest nearby the Karen village. Walk around the village to see the simple life of the local hill tribe before continuing the drive to the Elephant camp.

Upon arrival at Mae Wang Elephant Conservation camp, you will be greeted with warm hospitality from the Karen staff. Once you have arrived at the main lodge, you can relax before changing into your mahout's outfit, which you can take home at the end of the day.

Start the program by learning from our staff about the elephants, their back ground, and general instruction on how to care for our elephants. Learn how to combine herbs to feed to the elephants before enjoying you picnic lunch.

You then continue the training for basic mahout commands and have a soft trek through the trail in the forest for approximately 40 minutes. While you are in the forest, you and your elephant can hunt for some delicious sugarcanes as it is their favourite treat.

You will then return to your hotel to rest and have some leisure time.
