Brown-uniformed police are commonly seen, and mony speak a little English. However, try to contact the tourist police as they all speak English and are better trained at dealing with any problems tourists may face. They may also provide guidance and escort in remote or dangerous areas. The tourist police have offices in all major tourist areas in Thailand, as well as a hotline (Tel 1155) that puts you in touch with them directly from any pay phone in the country.
